Characteristics
Our LA is highly purified, with a typical purity of over 99.5%. Its high purity contributes to low color, low viscosity, and consistent quality.
Lauryl acrylate is derived from renewable sources, helping support carbon-neutral business initiatives. Our LA is a single-component product, whereas similar products from other manufacturers may contain not only C12 lauryl acrylate, but also C14 myristyl acrylate and C10 decyl acrylate due to the nature of the alcohol feedstock.
The long alkyl chain structure of lauryl acrylate provides low viscosity, low surface tension, and low polarity. LA is used in UV inkjet inks due to its softness and flexibilizing properties [1]. It is also used in adhesives and coatings because of its slip properties.
Recently, high-purity LA has been investigated for polymer brushes, such as poly(lauryl acrylate)-b-poly(stearyl acrylate) diblock copolymers synthesized by ATRP (Atom Transfer Radical Polymerization) [2], and for the fabrication of ultrahydrophobic poly(lauryl acrylate) brushes on silicon wafers via surface-initiated ATRP [3].
